摘要

Thermal energy storage is a technology that has been usedrnfor thousands of years in various forms. Many ancientrncivilizations harvested ice from frozen rivers for all sortsrnof cooling needs. The domestic hot water heater is thernmost common use of TES that has achieved essentiallyrn100% market penetration. With the ever increasingrnimportance in demand reduction and stability of ourrnelectric grid, Thermal Storage is once again becoming anrnimportant technology for air-conditioning buildings. It hasrnbeen used for the pass 2 decades to reduce the cost of airconditioningrnby lowering the amount of on-peak energyrnused. However, what are also becoming apparent are thernmajor “Green” benefits of shifting electric usage to Off-rnPeak hours, which include lowering source energy usagernand emissions. And in the final analysis, cool storage is arnmuch more cost effect way to add “safety factor” to arnproject, without the inefficiencies associated withrnoversizing the chiller plant.
