The Durability of Wood as a Building Material: A Historical Perspective

摘要

The timber company Stora Enso has recently introduced the heartwood of timber as a specific brand called "WoodHeart". When they introduce this "new" product, Stora Enso builds on the rich traditions in the Nordic countries concerning the use of durable wood for particular purposes, such as for instance door and window frames. This paper aims to explore the above-mentioned traditions on a worldwide scale. Secondly, the paper aims to compare the logic of the traditions with the current international norms concerning the durability of wood.
