VISIONARY MAP-DATABASE REQUIREMENTS

Geographic databases such as digital roadmaps, real-time travel conditions, andgeoreferenced business listings, will become increasingly important components of futureITS applications. In addition to traditional map applications such as traveler information,destination finding, trip planning, navigation, and route guidance, future map applicationswill include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), automated highway systems (AHS),road-traffic control systems, and active safety systems. What new demands will such futureapplications place upon geographic databases in terms of content, positional accuracy, detail,currentness, etc.? This paper describes the approach, progress and status of a project that isunderway to identify and define these visionary map-database requirements.
