摘要

Recent advances in wireless technologies enabled development of portable detection andsurveillance systems. Such systems need to detect traffic, collect measurements, capture livevideo and transmit this information back to the supervising station wirelessly to facilitate rapid,inexpensive and efficient deployment. In this paper a low cost, easily deployable detection andsurveillance system is presented. The system integrates machine vision sensors for datacollection, compressed digital video for surveillance and wireless communications forinformation retrieval and remote control. Four of these advanced detection systems weredeployed at a 1.7 mile long site for wireless, continuous coverage allowing detailed real timedata collection and surveillance. This data and video intensive deployment currently serves as alive laboratory for freeway crash detection, recording and analysis. Furthermore, the sameadvanced stations will be used for future implementations of crash prevention and crash alertsystems.
