A Conversational CG Agent Preventing Driversfrom Tedium and Sleepiness

Conversation is one way to prevent car drivers from dozing. But, when driving alone, adriver generally doesn't have anyone to talk to. In this paper, we describe a conversational CG(computer graphics) agent[1] that can be loaded into a car navigation system and protectdrivers from tedium and sleepiness by talking with the agent. The car navigation system,which has shown rapid progress in recent years, is equipped with voice-recognition,text-to-speech capabilities, and full-color LCD monitors.The CG agent system focuses on talking to the user, positively at first, and then byanswering the user's questions. This system uses data obtainable from the car navigationsystem for conversation topics.
