This paper proposes a new method to keep a driver awake during long hours of driving. Themethod is based on detecting changes in eye movements when the driver becomes tired anddrowsy. Spectrum analysis of driver's eye movements have shown that the relative powerbetween a low frequency band and a broader band that contains higher frequencies is relatedto driving performance, which was evaluated by speed fluctuation and deviation from the lane.Experiments on several stimuli to awake the drivers, such as sound, light, and airflow, haveshown that the effects of these stimuli vary depending on the driver's alertness level.
