MAPPING TRAVEL CHOICE WITHIN ABERDEENSHIRE USING GPS DEVICES

Aberdeenshire Council identified a need for more and better data on travel patterns; leading to a desire to collect more data on travel by all modes. This supports the objectives of Aberdeenshire's Local Transport Strategy [1] and other policies. The Council identified potential to gather data from real journeys made by employees and residents using GPS enabled technology. A technology review was undertaken followed by a trial of various technologies to assess their potential for travel data collection.
