摘要

The performance of a piezoelectric friction damper (PFD) and a semi-active control algorithm wasevaluated with a 1/4-scale, 3-story building model that was subjected to four earthquake ground motions ofvarious intensities. For shake table tests, the damper was installed between the first floor of the buildingand the shake table. Both numerical and experimental results indicated that the proposed control strategycan effectively suppress the structural vibration equally under weak and strong earthquakes. It was foundthat a semi-active PFD with slight saturation is beneficial to the mitigation of building responses whilesignificant saturation tends to degrade the performance of the control strategy. Further improvement inforce generation efficiency of the PFD would likely make it competitive with other representative semiactivecontrol devices.
