Serum and urine concentration of natrium and potassium in kidney stone patients in the urological clinic Timisoara

Excess of some metals in the biological systems in different conditions may determine competitive interactions which can change normal metabolic processes and lead sometimes to morbid status, e.g.: enzymopathies, hemopathies, appearance of stones with various locations. Our studies were performed at kidney stone patients admitted in the Clinic of Urology of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara. Blood samples and 24-h urinary samples were taken from the patients before and after the surgical intervention. The concentrations of natrium and kalium were determined by flame-photometer. We concluded that serum natrium and kalium concentration in the kidney stones patients are significantly decreased as compared to healthy persons. After surgical treatment only serum natrium concentration decreased. As to the urine concentration of natrium a significant increase after the surgical intervention wer observed. Urine kalium concentrations are more increased in patients with urolithiasis after the surgical treatment..
