In our research the fish, as one of the most suitable bio-indicators of animal origin, caught in surface water were studied. The fish were caught in two reservoirs located in the southeast part of the Czech Republic. Inorganic pollutants were monitored in the muscles and digestive system of these fish. The monitoring focused particularly on high-risk elements (arsenic, cadmium, cooper, mercury, nickel, lead and zinc). One of the reservoirs is situated in the surroundings of a reclaimed waste site where wastes of paints containing a technical mixture of higher-chlorinated PCBs were deposited. The second one serves as a drinkwater reservoir and is located in the area situated 20 km south-east as the crow flies. The concentrations of analytes were determined in eight fish species. It could be concluded that the level of contamination in fish is lower in the Korycany reservoir and the the current limits for residues, which are valid in the Czech Republic, were not exceeded in any case. This is a positive finding particularly in respect ot the fact that reservoir Smrad'avka is a summer holiday area and water from the lake is used for watering.
