The aim of the study was to determine the quantities of lead and cadmium in soils used for food production and to characterize the associations of metals with the soil components, for estimation the risk of crop contamination. Total lead contents ranged from 6.8 to 34.7 mg • kg~(-1). Total cadmium content was in the range 0.02 - 1.56 mg • kg~(-1). The most significant amounts of metals were associated with iron oxides and organic matter. The most labile fractions of lead and cadmium metals were very low, usually below the detection limit of the method applied.
