The effect of die approach geometry on axial residual stress after bar drawing was investigated by the experiment and FEM analysis. The entrance of the die should use angle-type and the corner radius is enlarged comparatively in the exit. The axial surface residual stress is also changed by the bearing length. As a result, a new design of the optimum geometry of die is proposed.
