The design of sacrificial and impressed current shallow anode ground beds requires knowledge of the following information: a) The resistivity of the soil near and around the ground bed. b) The material of the structure to be protected. c) The surface area of the structure to be protected. d) History of others with buried structures in terms of corrosion and corrosion related leaks in the area of the proposed structure. e) Type of soil. f) Amount of chloride, sulfate, bicarbonate and pH of the soil. g) Proximity to salt or brackish water. h) Quality and type, if any, of coatings to be applied to the structure. i) Temperature variations, if any. j) Location of other cathodically protected structures, if any, in the vicinity of the proposed structure. k) Location of stray current sources if any. l) Material being stored or conveyed. m) Pressure and temperature of material stored or conveyed.
