IT ISN’T CUT AND DRY - GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF WET WEATHER FLOW IMPROVEMENTS SCENARIOS FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT FACILITIES

In recent years, municipal utilities have been facing the need to provide significantimprovements on how they manage wet weather related flows in their wastewater treatmentfacilities as the result of increased regulatory and public pressures. This paper argues for newperspectives in regulatory approaches and how our industry defines improvement scenarios (i.e.establishing basis of design conditions and configuring treatment process configurations) toaddress wet weather flow treatment requirements, and proposes alternative means for dealingwith the many factors that will end up influencing the evaluation process of improvementscenarios.
