Simple Filtration with Zig-zag Sand Filter for Individual Household Waste Water Treatment

Generally, household in Indonesia have not the sufficient communal waste water treatment. The waste water from the household was disposed directly to the drainage system that connected to the river. The waste water was pollutes the river without any treatment processing. Research purpose was to shown the performance of the simple filtration equipment with zig-zag sand filter method that used in the household individually. The filtration method was used to decrease the basic contaminant of waste water, where in the beginning of this research the goal of the filtration was to make the waste water become colorless, odorless and tasteless as the clear water. The advantage of this zig-zag equipment was no need the wide space to implementing the filtration. The equipment could be installed in the wall of the household. The result shown that the effective angle of the zig-zag was 30 degree, where the decreasing of the waste water contaminant was highest one compare to the other angle of the zig-zag equipment. Filtration method was combining with the zeolite and coconut shell charcoal to produce the more clear water from the filtration. This research was sponsored by the Ministry of Research and Higher Education Republic of Indonesia.
