INNOVATIVE USE OF A REINFORCED SOIL WALL SYSTEM FOR ASHFILL VERTICAL EXPANSION

Through the innovative use of a 40-ft high reinforced soil wall system, an 8-acre ashfill was vertically expanded to provide airspace for an additional 3 years of disposal operations. This paper presents a discussion of the cost-benefit ratio of the reinforced soil wall system, design methodologies and stability considerations, special considerations for incorporation of the reinforced soil wall system into the final cover system, and a discussion of construction issues.
