All activities in an organization require or produce information.nTherefore, a document is not only the main information carrier but alsona central aid for the integration of office functions. The modern officensystems manage a wide variety of documents, which may include text,nimages, graphics, data, or voice. Document interchange facilities playnan essential role in integrating office systems and streamlining officenprocedures. A wide variety of systems such as electronic mail orncomputer based message systems are now available, achieving variousnlevels of interoffice document communication and distributed documentnprocessing. This paper proposes an architecture for a networkedninteroffice communication expert (NICE) system aiming at the integrationnof office communication functions and varied information media. A systemnfor the proposed architecture is being developed on Novell NetWarenplatform. It is an extension of our earlier software development effortsnnamely, electronic news and notice system, application specificnelectronic mail and object-oriented documents management system
