A series of polybutadiene polyols with controlled functionality of OH groups was prepared byrngrafting of hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene with 2-mercaptoethanol. The polyols had anrnaverage functionality ranging from about 2.0 to 4.0 and were characterized by their OH content,rnmolecular weight, viscosity Brookfield, and glass transition temperature.rnThe differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis measurements revealed thatrngrafting of polybutadiene with 2-mercaptoethanol enhances the thermooxidation stability of thernpolymer.rnThe polybutadiene polyols were used for the preparation of polyurethane (PU) elastomers. Thernrole of increased functionality of the polybutadiene on the elastomer mechanical properties (Shorernhardness, tensile stress-strain properties, tear strength, resilience, and compression set) as well asrnon its thermal characteristics (softening temperature, glass transition temperature) was assessed.
