For some time now, CO_2 has been employed with slabstock foam production as a relatively easy to handle and environmentally friendly blowing agent.rnWith the production of mouldings however, and the different demands, employment of CO_2 as blowing agent has only materialised fairly recently.rnFrom the technical aspect, there are several possibilities for CO_2 metering, which differ clearly with regards to investment costs, retrofitting suitability to existing plant, production reliability and safety, foam quality etc.rnA brief review is given in Table 1.rnHaving considered all aspects of importance to the processor, Krauss Maffei decided to go for CO_2 metering into one of the components in its day-tank.
