There are four conclusions that may be drawn from the results of this investigation: 1. The aluminum product Type B (nominal particle sizes 50 → 250 micron) provides a clearly superior enhancement of explosive energy, for emulsion explosive, when compared to the aluminum product Type A (nominal particle sizes 150 →840 micron); 2. The aluminum product Type B (nominal particle sizes 50 →250 micron) approaches the performance enhancement attained through the use of atomized aluminum product (45 μ or -325 mesh) but does not quite equal the performance enhancement of the other atomized product; 3. The partitioning of the available energy (early and/or late release) appears to be a function of aluminum particle size/composition, and explosive composition; 4. The Type B (nominal particle sizes 50 → 250 micron) aluminum product is shown to be the most cost effective product tested for the enhancement of aluminized emulsion performance, based on the results from a 10% aluminum addition to a basic emulsion, with the indication being that blast cost savings of at least 3% are possible.
