This paper investigates the characteristics of NRRO by usign FEM, modal testing and analysis of runout of a 2.5 "HDD. Most frequency components of NRRO are generated by the defects of ball and rotating race, and they can be determiend by hte kinematic analysis of ball bearing. It also proposes the novel design of a spindle motor that can reduce NRRO effectively by inserting the visco-elastic dampign mateiral to the transmissio npath of NRRO and the location where the strain energy is highly concentrated.
