PERFORMANCE OF THE SAINTE MARGUERITE-3 DAM DURING CONSTRUCTION AND RESERVOIR FILLING

The Sainte-Marguerite-3 dam was constructed from 1996 to 1998. Reservoir filling, which started before completion of the dam, is ongoing. Behavior of the dam is monitored by instrumentation that includes some special features such as piezometers close to the downstream edge of the core and in the downstream filter, thermometers at different levels and locations in the dam, oblique photos and 3 dimensional video of the dam. After more than a year of reservoir filling, the partial head has attained more than 100 m and the dam is performing well. Deformations are less than anticipated and seepage flow is slightly more than anticipated.
