MONITORING OF DAM SAFETY AND SUPERVISION OF THE ORLIK DAM

On the highest concrete gravity dam in the Czech Republic, Orlik, monitoring equipment with automated data collection, serving in the accuracy and wealth of the foundation for the evaluation of safety of this extraordinarily significant dam, was gradually implemented during the years 1995 - 1997. The equipment was installed by the Swiss company Huggenberger. The movements and deformation of the dam blocks (tension and stress), temperatures of the concrete inside the dam body, movements on the dilatation joints of the dam blocks, seepage into the dam body and uplifts in the bedrock are monitored. The main data on the monitoring system and the first test of its operation are contained in this report. The implemented system increased the quality of care for Orlik dam safety.
