RIDRACOLI DAM - A DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR MANAGING DAM SURVEILLANCE

The report describes the experience gained in the use of automatic monitoring and risk assessment for the Ridracoli Dam, using a decision support system for the on-line interpretation of the dam's behaviour. Data collected by a complex monitoring system are continuously processed and interpreted by the decision support system in order to help the Safety Manager in the surveillance of the structure behaviour and its foundation. The decision support system performs on-line evaluation, explanation and interpretation of dam behaviour, filtering the information collected by the automatic monitoring system in comparison to structural theoretical model and taking into account reliability of each instrument. The results of the processing are shown to the user through a colour-based graphical interface that represents the "state of the structure", requesting human interventions only for anomalous situation. The seven-year-experience in the use of the decision support system have provided valuable verification of its effectiveness within the safety surveillance activities.
