Horizontal plates are a common form of coastal engineering structuresrnsuch as plate-form breakwaters, very large floating structures and wavernenergy converters. The scattering of solitary wave with a submergedrnhorizontal plate is numerically investigated based on Smoothed ParticlernHydrodynamics (SPH) method. Vertical force and overturning momentrnexerted on a submerged plate are obtained by the numerical model, andrncompared with the experimental data. Effects of a sloping beach tornwave load are discussed by comparing with results on a flat bottom.rnMore details of pressure distributions along the plate and flow field arernalso presented on flat and sloping bottoms.
