Supported liquid membrane extraction of 99mTc (VII) in a hollow fibre contactor wasrninvestigated in this study. Technetium in a form of pertechnetate was extracted in the three phase system,rnfrom the acidic donor solution through the organic phase placed in the membrane pores and than to thernalkaline acceptor solution. Tri-n-octylamine was applied as a selective extractant for the separation ofrntechnetium from molybdenum. Donor solution flowed continuously through fibre in either once-through orrnrecirculation mode of operation. The acceptor solution was pumped counter-currently at the shell side ofrnthe contactor. The influence of donor and acceptor flow rate on the extraction and re-extraction of 99mTcrn(VII) was studied. The experimental results are discussed in terms of the fraction of 99mTc (VII) removedrnfrom the donor phase and mass transfer coefficient. The results can be used for the design of a hollow fibrerncontactor based extraction process that can be utilized for the alternative production of technetium isotopesrnusing cyclotrons.
