Somatostatin receptors have been identified on most endocrine tumors, including carcinoidrntumors, which generally express a high density of the receptors. The scintigraphy allows thernlocalization and staging of tumors, and has benefit in identifying small primary tumors and detectingrnmetastases. The high cost of 111In Octreotide turns difficult the access to this modality of diagnosis.Thernaim of this work was to analize the ability in detecting gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumorsrnby somatostatin receptors with 99mTc-EDDA/Hynic-Toc scintigraphy. Twenty-four patients werernstudied to diagnosis and to determine the staging of disease by somatostatin receptor scintigraphyrnwith99mTc- EDDA-Hynic-Toc. Scintigraphy was performed at 3 h (planar and tomographic images) andrn24 h (planar images) after injection of 740 MBq of 99mTc- EDDA-Hynic-Toc.We compare the 99mTc-rnEDDA-Hynic-Toc scintigraphy with the findings of CT, MRI, ultrasonography, and/or selectivernangiography. This study revealed a higher sensitivity of 99mTc-EDDA-Hynic-Toc as a diagnosticrnprocedure in gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors.
