In this paper, the problem of modeling and characterizing flanking transmissions in lightweightrnconstructions is addressed. The quantities and characterization methods used in EuropeanrnStandard EN 12-354, which is based on a first order Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) approachrnfor predicting sound insulation in buildings, cannot be directly used when applied to lightweightrnconstructions. These limitations are mainly related to the non-uniform vibration response ofrnlightweight floors and walls, which can partly be attributed to high damping. In this paper, anrnexact analytical model of a junction is used to evaluate the accuracy of SEA. To more accuratelyrnsolve the problem of vibration transmission between highly damped plates, a simple energy flowrnmodel is proposed, which treats the direct field and the reverberant field separately.
