Based on the conventional gravity-model, this study established an appropriate job accessibility measure model for major cities in China and applied it to a case study. Taking the city of Nanjing as an example, the research not only analyzed distribution of job accessibility by private transit (such as cars) and public transit (such as buses) in the main urban area, but also compared the variations of job accessibility in different districts. Our findings show that the expansion of city size doesn't bring any improvement to job accessibility and job accessibility declines from inner city to outer city. Compared to traditional old city areas, the new city areas have lower job accessibility, because there are insufficient employment opportunities and lag in cross-regional traffic infrastructure. This research will also provide good suggestions to improve job accessibility based on the characteristics of different urban areas.
