Based on the results of the neutronic calculations,rnit was found that a single fissile particle with a kernelrndiameter of 425 μm and an enrichment of either 10 orrn14 wt% could meet NGNP performance criteria forrnboth the initial and equilibrium cores. This includes anrn18-month power cycle length and a two-batch re-loadrnscheme. While a 350 μm particle with higherrnenrichments and packing fractions would work finerntoo, the larger diameter kernel provides greaterrnflexibility in packing fraction zoning to achievernoptimally-loaded fuel blocks.
