I’m one of the fortunate few within the Hispanic community who has taken advantage andrnbenefited from the great outdoors all my life. I grew up in the legendary Rio Grande Valley hunting andrnfishing from a very young age, mostly on private lands. My uncle helped manage a lot of the ranches uprnin the Zapata and Laredo area—not necessarily down in the Rio Grande—where we did a lot of huntingrnfor white-winged dove, deer, and javelinas and where I caught my first bass in a private tank.rnBut I’m rare, and I didn’t know how rare I was until we actually started doing some work forrnRBFF (Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation) and got into some research and found out exactlyrnwhat percentage of the Hispanic population is involved in hunting, fishing, camping, backpacking, and allrnthe great outdoors.
