KEYNOTE ADDRESS: FRENCH PRACTICE IN THE RENOVATION OF INFORMATION AND CONTROL SYSTEMS IN 900 MW NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS

From 1993 to 1995, Electricite de France carried out instrumentation and control (I&C) renovation studies. These studies were aimed at identifying those I&C components which could not be kept in operation up to the third ten-year outage and to propose adequate solutions in consequence. Both technical and economic aspects were dealt with. An observation phase gave the necessary data for decisions on obsolescence and the ageing of equipment. Basic preliminary studies were designed to propose solutions for the replacement of equipment that would not fulfil the criterion. The project concluded that most of the I&C components were in good working order and very few of them needed further study.
