On demanding of environmental protection, light metals are used more and more in automobiles in recent years. It is a good choice to apply more magnesium castings to an automobile to reduce its weight so that the emission amount of CO_2 will decrease. When it comes to automobile parts, the mechanical properties are very important. However, the mechanical properties of die castings are significantly influenced by the process parameters. The study is to examine the effects of cold chamber die casting process parameters on mechanical properties of AM60B magnesium alloy. We choose four process parameters- die temperature, second phase speed, pressure and cooling time- as the controlled factors, and use the Toguchi method to analyze which of them have important influence on mechanical properties of AM60B.
