Over the past half-century, there have been many changes, both in number of tornadoes reported and in the characteristics of their tracks. Even with the changes, when these data are used to estimate the local tornado hazard, the results are surprisingly robust. This gives us confidence in using this type of analysis as an aid in assessing relative risk from point-to-point and as an aid in determining reasonable design standards. Acknowledgements: We would like to express our appreciation to Ms. Linda Crank, who handled the increasingly important "desktop publishing" aspects of preparing conference preprint papers. Her skills and good humor while we fought computer problems and deadlines were invaluable.
