Anaerobic digestion on dairy and pig farms in the Netherlands can contribute to the reduction of the national methane emission. Organic matter is decomposed into biogas which is converted in an combustion engine into electricity and warmth. AD can be profitable on 3.6% of the dairy farms and on 6.8% of the pigs farm achieving a total reduction of 0.64 Mton CO_2-eq. 6.3 Mton manure
