Relationships between characteristics of particulate matter

Aerosol particle volume distribution functions have been used to study the relationships between the total suspended particulate matter (TSP), PM_(10) and the "black smoke". We have found that ratios of PM_(10)/TSP are from 0.26 to 0.98 in urban areas. A model describing the dependence of the surface concentration of deposited particles on the darkness index of a stain was developed. Ratios of concentrations measured by the black smoke method to the TSP vary widely.
