Biodegradation of Low-concentration Toluene in organic waste Gas

Microorganism which have the ability to degrade toluene were isolated and the best strain of the microorganism were selected via selective medium from the bacteria which live in soil polluted by toluene for a long time, The strain was identified as one of epiphyte, which belongs to aspergillus. we also desighed an experiment which treats low-concentration gaseous toluene with a biofilter manufactured by ourselves in which the strain we selected was inoculated to find those factors affecting the rate of toluene degradation.The results of the experiment showed that the strain had special ability to utilize toluene as a sole carbon source and strong ability to degrade toluene. In addition, the strain grew very fast in such a kind of experimental environment. Under these conditions, the rate of toluene degratdation was 70%~80%, and the corresponding degradation amount was 55mg/h~80mg/h.
