Reactor Vessel Internals Segmentation at Ranch Seco

Work has begun on the most critical task of the Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station's decommissioning project, the segmentation of the reactor vessel internals (RVI). Internals segmentation has caused many other projects to bog down in cost and schedule over-runs as equipment failures, water clarity issues, dose concerns and waste handling problems have stopped progress. The Rancho Seco project has attempted to bypass these problems by using mechanical methods such as cutting, milling or breaking by force to segment without generating fine debris in the water.
