Focal epilepsy occurs due to abnormal electrical discharges in the smaller section of the brain. These electricaldischarges later spread to the larger part of the brain resulting in generalized epilepsy. In this paper, a computer-aided diagnosticsystem is proposed to detect the focal epilepsy using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. It also provides a comparative study onthe results obtained using two decomposition techniques namely: Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Wavelet PacketDecomposition (WPD). A maximum accuracy of 88 % and 86 % was obtained using WPD and DWT respectively. Experimentalresults indicate that Wavelet Packet Decomposition outperformed in comparison to Discrete Wavelet Transform.
