摘要

It is technically and economically feasible for our nation’s commercial buildings tornconsume substantially less energy-and produce substantially less carbon dioxide-than they do.rnYet owners of existing buildings are not taking full advantage of today’s best energy-savingrntechnologies and practices; and developers of new buildings are, most often, constructing tornminimum energy codes rather than pushing for greater efficiency. Through its CommercialrnBuilding Initiative, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is addressing these challenges byrndeveloping cost-effective technologies and practices that deliver significant improvements inrncommercial building performance. DOE is also collaborating with industry-leading companiesrnand organizations to demonstrate, monitor, and help move these technologies from the laboratoryrnto the marketplace. Ultimately, DOE’s dual strategy of pairing aggressive research andrndevelopment with market engagement, demonstration, and deployment will dramaticallyrnimprove the energy performance of new and existing commercial buildings throughout thernnation.
