The nonlinear extended state observer (ESO), which is the key part in composing an auto-disturbance rejection controller (ADRC), becomes the most active method in the field of modern control theory. It can be used in the direct torque control (DTC) of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) to improve the robustness of the system, reduce the torque ripple and decrease speed drop when load is increased instantaneously. ADRC can rapidly and accurately reconstruct the information of the plant perturbations of parameters and external disturbances. Based on this information, feedback linearization can be achieved by proper designed compensation. In this paper, the traditional DTC control of PMSM is improved in both the DTC itself by increasing the torque and flux controller output variables and system robustness by adopting ADRC. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the proposed method.
