The molecular mass determination for polyamides is very difficult due to the insolubility of polymers in common solvents; high temperature and special solvents were used until Schulz proposed the N-trifluoroacetilation reaction. The modified polymer is soluble in THF, CH_2Cl_2 or other chlorinated anydrous solvents. Sec analyses are correct if the degree of N-trifluoroacetylation is higher than 0.95%. The used column sets do not allow a definitive demonstration of whether the universal calibration concept is valid in polyamide analysed.
