Utilization of photovoltaics in conjunction with passive solar design strategies greatly increases the benefits derived from the inherent performance characteristics of the devices. Due to the energetic utilization of the incident solar radiation and the use of existing building systems (frame, panels, seals, etc.) the previous cost performance ratio, with respect to the energy conversion rate and the area relation ($/ft.2), will assume values which are commensurate with existing building technologies and are competitive in the building sector on a cost/value ratio with other high efficiency glazing products. The function of photovoltaic glass can be positively configured using traditional passive design techniques to achieve near term if not immediate commercial viability.
