ENERGY ARMATURES: ORDERING AN INTEGRATION OF PASSIVE ENERGY RESOURCES FOR COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY

This paper presents a series of prototype passive energy armatures to be used for creating sustainable community tissue - whether as implant for existing urban fabric or as a new tissue on the land. Five premises underlie the development of these examples: Recognition that the inventory of passive resources (sun, wind, and light) can be quantitatively databased; these data can be graphically patterned; the basis for such patterning lies in differentiating "capture", "distribution", and "use"; the patterning requires the prototyping of unit and communal built form; and such manipulation leads to definition of a new urbanism unique to sustainable community tissue.rnThree prototypes have been developed and databased. The presentation includes both samples of the engineering analyses and architectural illustrations.
