摘要

The goal of this paper is to present a modern, integrated process of design and manufacturing of human customized implants, a process which can be employed in a wide range of cases. That process comprises the following steps: identification of the form of bone using computer tomography (CT); formulation of a digital description of bone geometry basing on the tomographic image; generation of a geometric model of bone using a CAD system; initial design of a custom implant; FEM analysis (CAE) of stress and strain distribution in the bone implant system under realistic load conditions in order to assess the construction, and to take also long-term effects, such as functional adaptation of the bone, into account; surgical operation planning using both the CAD system and rapid prototyping (RP) technique, manufacturing of the implant in a CAM system using a numerically-controlled machine tool (CNC).
