sThis paper presents a reduced Trefftz-type approach and its application in the framework of the finite element method. The application is based on constructed element approximation basis that solves the Lagrange equation and the essential boundary conditions at the finite element level. The global approximation basis operates on the natural boundary conditions enforced in an integral form. The formatting of rectangular 12-DOF thin plate bending elements is generalized to form quadrilateral elements that satisfy the requirement of convergence. Different sets of numerical examples address the eigenvalue analysis of rhombic and trapezoidal plates. Attention is paid to show the convergence of the elements using different element meshes and different boundary conditions.
