Gas streams containing volatile organic compounds are produced in many chemical and process industries. To minimize releases of these contaminants to the environment, effective separation and remediation processes must be applied. Current approaches incldue carbon addsorption, incineration, UV radiation, chlorination, ozonation, catalytic combustion, and biodegradation. Of these possibilities, bodegradation is selfregenerating, and it can be one of the least expensive techniques if an efficient contacting method is applied. Biodegration and biotreatment of organic waste are proven, safe approaches to the destruction of many organic wastes.
