A CO2 miscible gas enhanced oil recovery (EOR) wateralternating-rngas (WAG) development scheme is being evaluatedrnas a method to enhance viscous oil recovery from thernSchrader Bluff reservoir at Milne Point.rnA CO2 EOR development offers the opportunity to reducerngreenhouse gas emissions, while at the same time enhancingrnoil recovery. Under such a scheme, CO2 would be extractedrnfrom the exhaust of gas-fired turbines and compressed for injectionrnalong with NGL in a WAG flood. There are no knownrnanalogues using this approach to increase recovery in a viscousrnoil reservoir.rnFully compositional simulation models were constructed torninvestigate the behavior of the injected CO2/NGL mixture asrncompared with conventional waterflood recovery schemes. Anrnassessment of simulator capability was made, and uncertaintiesrnin reservoir properties and development options werernexamined with a variety of models. The overall performancernof the CO2/NGL solvent was predicted for pattern elements,rnscaled up to development pad size, then to a multi-pad largescalerndevelopment.rnThe evaluation concludes that CO2 EOR WAG has thernpotential to significantly increase recovery compared to waterflooding,rnand that a large volume of CO2 could be permanentlyrnsequestered in the reservoir. The economic viability of thernproject depends on the value attributed to the sequestered CO2rnin the form of emission permits which are sold or traded.
