This paper documents three case studies of air emission control units that were installed on different processes at production plants between 2000 and 2005 for large manufacturers in the plastics extrusion, adhesives, and chemicals industries. While the case studies occur in these industries, the subject emissions have common characteristics with those for any exhaust gas with sticky or oily/waxy fumes and fine particulate, including those seen in extrusion coating and certain film extrusion processes.rnThe paper describes, for each case study, the project objectives, production process and nature of the emissions, alternative technical approaches considered, with technical performance and economic comparison of the options. In each of the case studies, the subject company selected a moving bed filter unit that is specifically designed for collection of sticky fumes and particulate, and which as such has distinct advantages over conventional technologies and self-designed systems. Results from the three full-scale implementations, which were installed between 2000 and 2005, included the following: elimination of sticky/oily emission deposits on plant buildings, equipment and cars; elimination of potentially unlawful visible emissions (I.e., opacity) from the stacks; high process line uptime; and recovery of product from stack emissions for recycle back to the process.
