The knowledge of area wide up-to-date traffic informationrnis a key issue for accurate traffic forecasting andrnservice. The observation of large areas with very high resolutionrnradar sensors provides very useful snapshots for one instant inrntime. Ground moving target indication (GMTI) utilizes differentrntechniques such as along track interferometry to detect nonstationaryrnobjects. Slowly moving or stagnant objects howeverrnare very difficult to detect but are as well of particular interestrnsince they are typical for traffic jams.rnWe therefore apply a change detection method to the amplituderninformation of multi-temporal TerraSAR-X image stacks in orderrnto disclose stopped or jammed cars on roads and to monitorrnfluctuations on parking lots.rnAs an example we analyze queues of cars waiting in front ofrntraffic lights in Las Vegas as well as significant fluctuationsrnin capacity utilization of parking lots around the Las VegasrnConvention Center (LVCC) depending on occurring events.
